Murderer Beardslee to be terminated

At one minute past midnight this evening, Donald Beardslee of Redwood City will be executed at San Quentin prison.

In 1981, while on parole after already being in prison for a 1969 out-of-state killing, he shot Patty Geddling with a shotgun and slit the throat of Stacey Benjamin, leaving both young women dead.

Anti-death penalty activists have been busy distributed literature online about the Beardslee case.  The documents claim that Beardslee should be exempted from capital punishment because he was born with brain damage.  The lawyer of Beardslee has been making similar arguments before both the Governor of California and the Supreme Court.

Fans of Beardslee had their hopes dashed this afternoon when it was learned that Governor Schwarzenegger is refusing to grant clemency to the 61-year-old, and that the Supreme Court decided that further appeals would not be heard.

"There is no question in my mind that at the time Beardslee committed the murders he knew what he was doing-- and he knew it was wrong," commented the Governor.
