About Niggerati Story:
Niggerati Story is a collection of gestural stories,
epiphanies, and dreams integrating dance, video
projection, song and ritual. Local performance artist,
mary ann brooks welcomes you to The Church of True
Expression where she conjures up black superheroines,
genderbending preachers, bicycle dances, and ocean
goddesses.
About the Artist:
maryann brooks is a local Performance Artist, Dancer
and Vocalist who was recently an Artist in Residence
at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts. Her most
recent 2004 collaboration was with Keith Hennessy's
Circo Zero for the show "Mercy". She has performed
with numerous local choreographers, performance
artists and theater directors. She has also danced,
taught, and performed in NYC, Amsterdam, and
Aotearoa/NZ.
