On Saturday, Dec. 25, serve food with Tenderloin Tessie Holiday Dinners, an all-volunteer organization that has been welcoming people in need and providing Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter dinners for the past 30 years. Volunteers can also hand out gift bags to children and help clean up. Everyone who comes to eat is guaranteed a hot, sit-down meal.

In the Northern Hemisphere, this solstice reassured pre-literate humans
that the apparently "dying" sun would revive once more.
If the sun ever fails to revive, they reasoned, then the gods have decided to end the world.
