D18 "Califilmians" in Castro outnumber....
....many demos for marriage equality,
or for the rights of sexworkers.
or for the rights of sexworkers.
As of 4pm Saturday, Dec. 18, a large crowd stands in front
of the embattled Castro Theatre,
(former?) mecca for indie film fans.
Who in Kansas would believe that
"Califilmians" could care
so much about movies?
If only civil liberties would
excite such enthusiasm.....

The persons who organized and attended today’s protest at the Castro Theatre are all (at least the ones I know personally, which are many) involved in activism on many fronts including civil liberties, war, globalization, animal rights, etc. There are many causes worth fighting for and when you look at the larger picture you can hopefully make the connections. Remember, the events of Paris May ’68 were set of by the firing of Henri Langlois, director of the Cinematheque Française. Culture and politics are connected. Solidarity.
