BIKE THE FREEWAY!!
The Freeway 180 extension from Chestnut Ave. to Fowler has not yet succumbed to the noise, air pollution, and general mayhem of automobile traffic. Instead, it remains one of the biggest, quietest, safest, and cleanest bike lanes in the world! One hundred yards wide and two miles long of smooth pavement, quiet, and relatively clean air.
Join a fun-loving group of Yahoos, Critical Massers, Rabble Rousers, FCBC folks, clean air advocates, livable community activists and other despicable liberals, progressives, and n'er-do-wells for a leisurely ride and reconnaissance of Fresno's newest bike lane/freeway. We'll gather for a repast, refreshments, music, and bicycle video along the way--Dallas and Stephen are the rolling music/video techies and Chris will provide any needed bike repairs.
WHERE: Jensen and Watts parking lot, northeast corner of Chestnut and Belmont
WHEN: Sunday, December 19th at 2 pm, rain, snow, sleet, or shine.
WHAT TO BRING: Yourself, friends and family, food/snacks for a potluck, your favorite beverage
WHY: To ride on the world's biggest, quietest, safest, and cleanest bike lane, of course. Also, to dream of what could be if we allowed common sense, aesthetics, environmental integrity and community to guide the spending of our transportation tax dollars.

The Reedley Peace Center presents "The Monsters are due on Maple
Street" from the Twilight Zone. This episode of the science
fiction/fantasy series is Rod Serling's chilling commentary on how easily
neighbor can be turned against neighbor when brought up against inexplicable
events. Here, the brute group entity is dissected and revealed for what it
is: a violent chaotic force powered by fear and nurtured by irrationality.
It first aired on March 4, 1960 and the message remains relevant in today's
climate of suspicion and prejudice. It reminds us of the dangerous power of
fear. How easily it manipulates and controls, how quickly it fans the flames
of anger and hate, and how swiftly reason becomes replaced with violence.
Light potluck at 6:30. Program begins at 7 pm. This event is sponsored by the Reedley Peace Center and will be held at the Fellowship Hall of First Mennonite Church, on 'L' street between 12th and 13th streets in Reedley. Admission is free. Contact Don Friesen by email at dfriesen@telis.org

Gene Bluestein Memorial Concert featuring Jean Ritchie and The Bluestein
Family Richard Hagopian Orchestra and The Arax Armenian Dancers Tower
Theatre, Fresno, CA This is a little of what can be found on the site. http://zimmer.csufresno.edu/~geneb/05concert.html
The late professor Gene Bluestein directed a program sponsored by the
National Endowment for the Arts, which brought many nationally-known folk
artists to Cal State University, Fresno, among them: Kenny Hall, Bessie
Jones, Lydia Mendoza, and Dewey Balfa. The artists taught courses in their
specialties and were available to local schools, at no charge. In 1979 the
honor fell to Kentucky native Jean Ritchie and to San Joaquin Valley native
Richard Hagopian. They each taught for an entire semester. With Bluestein's
help, both artists went on to receive the prestigious National Heritage
Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Gene Bluestein
Memorial Committee is proud to celebrate the Second Gene Bluestein Memorial
Concert by featuring these two internationally-recognized artists.
