Action Alert: Show Gov. Schwarzenegger the Bay Area's Support for a Shore to Shore
Pathway on the
Bay Bridge
We need your help now in securing bike access on the Bay Bridge for decades to come.
Governor
Schwarzenegger's administration is expected to announce a plan early next week about
how to
proceed with the replacement Bay Bridge East Span. As you probably know, there has
been a
concerted effort to cut the cost of this massive project that has gone well over
budget.
The current plan for the new Bridge between Oakland and Yerba Buena Island includes
a 15.5 foot
wide bicycle/ pedestrian/ maintenance pathway, which we've fought hard for during
the past few
years. It's important now that we demonstrate strong support to keep this crucial
planned link in
the Bay Area Bicycle Network, as well as justifying funding for the construction of
a pathway on
the West Span too.
Please take this opportunity to send an easy, free fax to the Governor from the
SFBC's secure web
site.Ê We encourage you to take action by this **Monday, December 6th**.

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
This project for a new East Span of the Bay Bridge has been in the
works for a long time, and much budget expenditure has been planned around it. The
planning has
been very thorough and appears to benefit all types of traffic, while remaining safe.
Continuing on this path, it would seem to be pertinent to follow-up with the
improvements on the
West Span of the Bay Bridge, completing the commuter's traffic flow program. The
community is in
consensus. I think that the years of public meetings with contractors, city council
members, and
county officials goes to prove its economic efficiency. Making a sudden change to
plans could
seriously affect the dependent arrangements, and compromise safety.
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
