TRIPLE FEATURE

  1. When Pigs Cry
A Viva!USA investigation reveals shocking facts about how most pigs are crammed in disease-ridden, indoor units where they live in their own filth. A cocktail of drugs keeps them alive and forces fast growth.
Viva!USA's research and investigation of pig farming revealed an industry that is responsible for the imprisonment and death of millions of pigs. Gentle and intelligent animals are kept in crates, during pregnancy and birth, so small that they cannot walk or turn around. Those raised for meat live in filthy, crowded, and disease ridden pens. Those who survive — and many don't — are killed after 6 months.
In addition to this, pig farming is wrecking havoc on the environment via waste lagoons and environmental spills.
"The unspeakable horrors hidden behind the holiday ham are incompatible with the peaceful, life-affirming spirit of the holiday season," said Lauren Ornelas, Director of Viva!USA. "This year, more than ever, the wish for Peace on Earth holds great meaning. The quest for non-violence begins on your plate."
  2. The Witness
How does a construction contractor from a tough Brooklyn neighborhood become an impassioned animal activist? "The Witness is one man's truth that cries out for mass exposure... may be the most important and persuasive film about animals ever made." — Howard Rosenberg, Los Angeles Times
In the award-winning documentary The Witness, Eddie Lama explains how he feared and avoided animals for most of his life, until the love of a kitten opened his heart, inspiring him to rescue abandoned animals, become a vegetarian, and ultimately, to bring his message of compassion to the streets of New York.
24 film festivals and 9 awards including "1st Place Advocacy/Public Policy" and "Best of Festival"
Montel Williams included a chapter on Eddie Lama, the subject of The Witness, in his book A Dozen Ways to Sunday: Stories of Hope and Courage.
Sponsored by: The Fund for Animals
  3. Cull of the Wild: The Truth Behind Trapping
Trapping is a relic from a less enlightened time when fur was the height of fashion and the lone trapper was an icon of the American West — but the reality is indescribable and indiscriminate animal suffering. This film, by the Animal Protection Institute, makes the case that trapping — whether for profit, recreation, or wildlife management — is unjustified in the 21st century and leaves the viewer with renewed hope that this barbaric practice can be stopped through grassroots activism, increased public education, and changes in public policy.
"CULL OF THE WILD: The Truth Behind Trapping provides important thought and heart provoking information to a world that must act now. Animals and the future are relying upon our passion, compassion, and commitment to end this senseless, destructive history." — Julia Butterfly Hill, Forest Activist
10 film festivals and 6 awards including "Best of Festival/Documentary" and "Merit Award for Conservation Advocacy"
    Sponsored by: Animal Protection Institute

DOUBLE FEATURE

  1. The Emotional Lives of Farmed Animals
This companion film to Jeffrey Moussaieff Mason's latest book, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon, offers an in depth look at the emotional lives of the sentient beings who exist primarily to become someone's dinner. Mason visited with animals living on farm sanctuaries like Animal Place in CA and Farm Sanctuary in NY and examines the changes that come over an animal who makes it from a factory farm to the safety of a sanctuary.
  2. Peaceable Kingdom
"Peaceable Kingdom is a masterpiece. I hope it inspires growing numbers of people to support this desperately important cause." — Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE, UN Messenger of Peace
At a time when factory farming is in the headlines for putting the environment and public health at risk, Peaceable Kingdom takes its audience on an eye-opening journey to the heart of this unfolding national drama.
Propelled by the testimony of farmers who have themselves come to question the fundamental assumptions behind their community's way of life, the film delivers a riveting portrait of human and animal lives caught up in an out of control industrial machine.
Much more than an exposi, Peaceable Kingdom is about personal redemption, commitment, healing and hope, offering a life-changing vision of a peaceful world that is well within our reach.
