Second Iraqi cleric assassinated
A group of armed men have killed a Muslim cleric in the town of Miqdadiya, the second assassination of an Association of Muslim Scholars' member in Iraq in two days, witnesses and hospital officials say.
It is not clear whether Shaikh Ghalib al-Zuhair's killing has any connection with the death of Shaikh Faidh Muhammad Amin al-Faidhi, brother of the association's official spokesman.
Shaikh Faidh was killed in a drive-by shooting in the northern city of Mosul on Monday.
Miqdadiya lies 100km north-east of Baghdad, close to the provincial capital of Baquba.
The AMS, an influential Iraqi Muslim body, says its members have been targeted by US and interim Iraqi security forces as well as groups trying to fuel sectarian unrest.

Sheik Ghalib Ali al-Zuhairi was a member of the Association of Muslim Scholars, an influential Sunni clerics group that has called for a boycott of nationwide elections scheduled for Jan. 30.
He was shot as he was leaving a mosque in the town of Muqdadiyah and died in the local hospital, said police Col. Raisan Hussein. Muqdadiyah is about 60 miles north of Baghdad.
A day earlier, unknown gunmen assassinated another prominent Sunni cleric in the northern city of Mosul Sheik Faidh Mohamed Amin al-Faidhi, who was the brother of the group's spokesman. It as unclear whether the two attacks were related.
