Defend Affordable Healthcare for Grocery Workers

Date:
Friday, November 19, 2004

Organizer/Author:
Kim Rohrbach
Location Details:

On Friday, Nov. 19, visit your nearest Safeway store from 3-6pm and sign a boycott pledge card to help defend affordable healthcare for Northern California\'s grocery workers. Union workers employed by Fortune 50 grocery companies such as Safeway, Albertson\'s, and Kroger earn an average of about $24,000 a year in the Bay Area. The most basic provisions of their contract - not to mention, continued access to affordable healthcare - are currently under threat as a contract covering workers from the central coast to the Oregon border is being negotiated. By declaring your willingness to support a boycott in order to help grocery workers win a fair deal in contract negotiations, you can help ensure that the familiar faces who assist in providing for your daily needs are able to continue providing for their own needs, as well as for the needs of their families.

If you have some time to spare on Friday, volunteers are needed at certain Safeway locations to help collect signatures on the boycott pledge cards. People interested in volunteering should contact Chris Olinger (650) 826-1635 or Helen Lee (415) 559-8926 before Friday at noon.
