Iran's supreme leader denounces "infidel crimes" in Fallujah
TEHRAN - Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday denounced what he said were crimes committed by "infidels" in the shattered Iraq city of Fallujah and called on the Muslim world to protest.
"The massacre of civilians, women and children by the thousands, the execution of wounded, the destruction of homes, mosques and other places of prayer... makes every Muslim restless," Khamenei said in a statement read out on state television.

He said the Americans wanted to spread "the events of Fallujah elsewhere in Iraq, notably Mosul, Samarra and Baquba", as state television showed television pictures of a US Marine allegedly shooting dead an injured insurgent.
Muslim governments "must protest against the crimes committed by the infidel oppressors," said Iran's all-powerful leader, while criticising "Arab and Islamic governments who stand by and watch while we hear appeals for help from the Iraqi people."
"All of these crimes are committed by the occupation forces under the pretext that terrorists are among the population. Does this seriously doubted pretext give the right to murder innocent people, to leace the injured untreated and abandon starving women and children?" the statement said.
The raid on Fallujah, part of an attempt to reclaim key lawless enclaves across the country ahead of January elections, has been the largest military operation in Iraq since the March 2003.

Iran's so-called supreme mullah leader on Thursday criticized Arab and Muslim silence over the U.S. attack on Fallujah, and he urged the region's governments to help the Iraqi people.
"How can Muslim and Arabic governments accept playing the role of an indifferent observer? We can hear the voice of the needy coming from Iraqi families. Doesn't this voice deserve a protest by governments and the people against the arrogant Western powers?" mullah Khamenei was quoted as saying by state-run Tehran radio.
U.S. troops led a major assault on Fallujah last week, seizing the city from insurgents suspected of using it as a base for carrying out bombings and kidnappings.
Mullah said the silence over the offensive would encourage the Americans to carry out similar operations in other parts of Iraq.
"Killing thousands of civilians, executing the injured, arresting the innocent and destroying houses and mosques in Fallujah makes the eyes and hearts restless," he said.
American estimates of the number of insurgents killed in the offensive range from about 1,000 to about 1,200.
Tehran approved the toppling of Saddam Hussein, who fought a 1980-88 war with Iran, but it has opposed the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq, fearing U.S. troops on its doorstep will pose a security threat.
