No illegal drugs found in body of man fatally shot by police

Johnnie Nakao, the troubled son of a Santa Clara County sheriff's deputy fatally shot by San Jose police in August after their Taser stun guns failed, had no trace of illegal drugs in his body, according to a medical examiner's report released Tuesday.

The report also showed that two of the prongs fired from the officers' Tasers penetrated Nakao's chest, through a fleece jacket and shirt, but it remained unclear why the 50,000 volts were ineffective. A third Taser-related wound was found on his right forearm.

Nakao, 21, whose relatives said he was harmless but haunted by a mental illness and drug addiction, apparently tried to steal a CD player from a Radio Shack on Aug. 12. A confrontation with employees became violent.

San Jose police officers Gary Jungling and Kevin McMillion were called and tried to use their Tasers to subdue Nakao, who had a knife. He ran out the back door, and they chased him.

Police said Nakao then turned around and came at them with a knife. A second Taser shot failed to stop him, and officers opened fire with their handguns. Nakao was struck once in the upper chest and twice in the abdomen, according to the medical examiner's report. A fourth shot missed.

Sharon Jensen, who had helped raise Nakao after his mother divorced from his father, John Nakao, has said she believed her grandson may have been high on drugs when he was killed. Toxicology results showed only caffeine, nicotine and traces of alcohol.

I am very upset how the media can twist my cousins name
to make him look like the scum of the earth we just found out that it was stated in your news paper that my grandmother said that Johnnie Nakao was on drugs when he was killed by the San Jose Police that is a lie she never made any kind of statement of that kind. To make the record straight my cousin was not a person that lived on drugs he may have made mistakes by using drugs sometimes but it was not on a everyday basis, what we have to think about is the fact that he was in a rehab getting clean and that is the truth I talked to my cousin the day before he died and he said that he could not wait to get out of his rehab so that he could come down and visit us his life revolved around his family we were his life. My cousin Johnnie Nakao was a kind hearted person that loved his family he had one of the kindest hearts he was the kind of person that could cheer you up when your down.
What those police did to Johnnie was robbed him of his life I talked to one of the wittenesses that saw the whole shooting and he was sitting right outside his house which was infront of where Johnnie life was stolen from him he stated to me that Johnnie never lundged at the cops with a knife he was walking backwards to try and get away from the cops he was afraid of the cops, what would you do if you had two cops that where pointing their guns at you some of us say that we would stop but not all people think that way espcially when you are afraid of the police those cops lied about my cousin trying to lundge at them with a knife and know my cousin is dead and what are they going to do about it nothing because he was just some regular person but if it was on the other side and it was a police man that got shot and killed they would be all over it and you know it.

Its not right not right at all i have been his cousin for almost 14 years. He would never ever lunged with a knife at anyone he ain't stupid he is smart and my family and i loved him so much we just don't understand why! if u knew him you would be shocked real shocked you would be saying why didn't they shoot him in the leg at least he would be alive. Johnnie had just turned 21, he was born on july 18 the same day my grandma was born that was her present and now she lost him just because of a cd player how stupid is that? we all lost him even the people that don't even know him lost him. I cry every night it seems like Just thinking about him. This is crazy why did they do it I want the truth now!

Get your facts straight about what my grandmother Sharon Jensen said about my cousin Johnnie Nakao she never said that Johnnie ever had any kind of toxics in his system when my cousin was shot you need to make the record straight and tell the truth that if there was ever a statement made of that kind it was not by my grandmother I was sitting by my grandma when she was talking to you on the phone. What does this say about your news paper that is a false and hurtful statement and if you were related to Johnnie than you would understand. My Grandmother raised Johnnie and she knew Johnnie better than anyone and she knew that Johnnie tests results would come out to be that Johnnie was clean of drugs.

Johnny's mother and I were best friends since we were 10. She was the most wonderful person, full of life and love. Her son Johnny possessed these qualities and more. He will truly be missed by all, however, he is now with his very large family in heaven. Nanette and her witty and lively sister Yvonne and her kind and thoughtful brother Steven. My best wishes to all the family members of the four persons mentioned above.

To the San Jose cops You stoled a innocent life. The life of my grandson Johnnie Nakao 21. You shot him even though witnesses said he didn't lunge at you, you chose to kill him. Was it just to see if you guns worked? Were trying to see what it was like to kill someone? Then why? I know you have the answer but we will never know. I know who you are now and I will watch for your names because KARMA will get you.I hope it is in my life time as you took someone precious to me. I love Johnnie I have buried 4 children but knowing hurts more when someone takes an innocent lfe with so may years ahead for them. I WAIT FOR YOUR KAR!A TO BITE YOU IN YOUR ---

I NEVER KNEW WHO KILLED JOHNNIE BY NAME NOW I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.You are cowards you killed a 21 year old boy not a grown man. Witnesses say you were wrong. I knew you would get away with it. But I can tell Karma will get you.I can.'t believe it took 4 shots in his body for you to see how you can kill someone. WHY DIDN'T YOU SHOOT HIM IN HIS LEG BUT YOU WENT FOR THE KILL. I hope KARMA gets you
