Wake Up San Francisco!!

by Bewildered (UN)
Time for prejudice to stop! Remember the ovens
The innocents dieing, Infant Mortality, outrarageous Asthma rates, outrageous breast cancer rates, outrageous unemployment, Truly Racism in San Francisco at it’s best no different from lynching in the south just more sophist aced. The previous email with subject: TheMOTHER'S "ACTION PLAN" contained a factual error. I wish to make the following correction:

In the 7th paragraph now preceded and followed by asterisks (*******) I stated;

".....the Mayor changed the rules after the petitions were delivered so that the intent to elect a conscientious supervisor was eliminated and replace by the Mayor's fiat that he would appoint a new Supervisor if their petition was sufficient."

The Mayor in fact did not change the rules. This rule was hidden in the City Charter in a section separate from the section on elections and recalls. The Department of Elections not only failed to give the proponents this information, but in both attempts to recall actually approved the wording on the petition,

". . . We demand election of a successor in that office."

John Rants, Director of Elections, either was himself ignorant of this rule, or deliberately deceived the petitioners. He should be fired for incompetence or conflict of interest.

Yesterday, November 10th, a group of Mothers from Hunters view projects in Bay view Hunters Point made an arduous journey to Folsom California to address the Board of Governors of CAISO.

Having learned only indirectly of the decision to delay the closing of the old Hunters Point power plant till 2007 with no guarantee of closure even then, the women who were not consulted in this so called 'Action Plan,' whose toddlers need heavy medication for asthma and eczema because of the cloud of particulate matter belched out of PG&E's smoke stacks located within yards of their neighborhood were angered at yet another broken promise.

After telling their stories, once again, of the medical emergencies and life threatening illnesses which dominate their children's lives. They listened to the Board's deliberations.

What came down was the sad tale, apparently manufactured by PG&E, of unacceptable risks of power outages if the H.P.plant was dismantled before a complicated assemblage of additional power purchases, more fossil fuel burning equipment, new power lines and other schemes that will keep a select few of companies assured of profits.(At this meeting we listened to a report by the Market Surveillance Committee assuring everyone that the possibility of Energy Corporations gaming the market, as was done in 2000-2001, is now blocked.)

Thus we are now presented with scary projections of shortages by Energy Companies as a substitute way to boost profits. Our elected and appointed officials were intimidated by these threats of black outs and conceded (like the spineless Democratic Party) to PG&E's lies about "unacceptable risks."

Having followed, through the years, contradictory declarations of future energy shortages, then proof to the contrary and proof that we will in the end have and excess of energy, the women now know for sure that if anyone will represent THEIR "unacceptable" risks to their children's worsening illnesses, it will have to be themselves.

*********
It is obvious they have no representation in City Hall. Even the Department of Elections sided against these most vulnerable of citizenry. The Department fraudulently declared the signatures of over 4000 registered voters on a petition calling for the recall of their Supervisor "insufficient." But even before this amazing disenfranchisement the Mayor changed the rules after the petitions were delivered so that the intent to elect a conscientious supervisor was eliminated and replace by the Mayor's fiat that he would appoint a new Supervisor if their petition was sufficient.
**********

The residents of Bayview Hunters Point see that they will have to take things in their own hands. They are not as easily frightened as those in power at City Hall. The Mothers' rage is growing and they are tired of having their and the children’s' health placed at the bottom of our City's priority list.

There will be a demonstration in front of the PG&E plant on Monday, 12 noon, December 8th, 2004. They are sending out requests to all progressives in the City to join them in their revolt against this shameful injustice.
