Oh, you mean your estimate of ONE thousand, five hundred....which probably means there were a few hundred. In this town, you can get a few hundred people to protest that the sky is blue. You're beaten, guys.
by Z
Its hard to estimate crowd sizes. When the march went up around Union Square it filled the entire street for 1 1/2 blocks. Definitely over 1000 but hard to know by how much (it could have been 2-3 thousand or just over 1000 since the crowd was much more dense near the front where I was taking pictures) When the crowd got back down to Market Street and went by the hotels it was a little smaller but it was 1 block long on one side of Mission St with around 30+ people across for the first portion of the march (I have a few blury pics showing this so I coudl try to count but they didnt come out very well since my flash cant light up more than the area immediately in front of me) I did a quick estimate late on in the march when it was smaller than its miximal size; I counted across and back and it was about 30 across near the front and about 150 long which would be over 3000 if the crowd density ws uniform. Since the crowd was less dense farther back it was more likely that the actual number was around 1500 at that point.

Not a very good pic, but as you can see the front banner is out of frame and the crowd extends past the right side of the pic too. The visible crowd in the pic seemed pretty uniformly dense and from the other pictures you can see it was pretty wide (30 across at the front). This pic is on Mission St after the crowd looped around Union Square went up market went past the Montgomery BART and was then heading back to Powell and Market via Misson. Many in the original crowd never went on the march and people also left on the first return to Market st.
WHERE CAN I GET *THAT* SHIRT!?

NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE *EXPLICITLY* SUPPORTING THE IRAQI RESISTANCE! (--THOUGH I REALIZE THAT PEOPLE OF ARAB/MUSLIM DESCENT CANNOT EXPLICITLY/OPENLY SAY SO.)

I HAVE A SIGN THAT INDEED *EXPLICITLY* SAYS: "SUPPORT THE IRAQI RESISTANCE!"

Radical leftists have periodically have supported "revolutionary" groups, like the Stalinist Sandinistas and the Vietcong. History speaks for its self as to the result of this support. Radicals in this country should build a class-based resistance to its own government and if we give support to movements that are far far away-- it should be critical support.

Thank you for your signs, protests, and completely insane views. If it were not for Americans like you, cheering on our foriegn enemies and being completely wrong on the facts, good Americans might actually become even more complacent than they have already become. Your insanity ensured a victory for a president who is average at best. For Americans like me who will always fight for rights of our countrymen, and all others in the world who are truly oppressed, thank you.

I understand that the U.S. military has made a deal with hip hop mogul Sean Combs/Puffy Diddy to unload leftover T-Shirts from the failed Anybody But Bush campaign.

Iraqis will be given a deal on P. Daddy's wonderful "VOTE OR DIE" clothing line as a reminder of the lovely gift of democracy that capitalism bestows.

Anyone left alive will vote - for the right candidate - or be killed.

I understand bootleg burkhas have sold out in Afghanistan.....
