Why Catholics Voted For Bush

Oh...let's see. More scandals coming out everyday about pedophile Catholic priests molesting children all over the country, WITH THE CONSENT OF THE CATHOLIC HIERARCHY. Catholic parishes declaring bankruptcy all over the nation because they can't handle all of the lawsuits. THAT'S NO BIG DEAL! It's those gays and lesbians who want to get married, that's the problem! It's all of those lesbians and gays adopting children cast off from society, that nobody wants, who've been abused, and instead giving them love, and the only family they've ever had, that's the problem!! That's what's tearing down our "spiritual values"! That's why America is in a "crisis of faith"! So vote for Bush! He's a man of God! He'll stop this wave of immorality! And then we can get back to averting our eyes from priests raping the children of our church members! Averting our eyes to the causes of poverty and violence!

Evangelicals play the same delusional game. It's all about scaring money into the collection plates so that these fat cat preachers and priests can get even more powerful. They are worse than pimps. And when you call them on it, they just hide behind the Bible, or worse, accuse you of "persecution". How ridiculous! Of course, it's every church goer's right to believe what they want to believe, but where is the seperation between Church and State? Isn't that a fundamental value of American democracy? And if folks decide they don't want to play by those rules, then what gives them the right to say they are patriotic? The problem is that despite them saying that they represent "values" and "morals", it's all about "me first" and "screw the rest". It's "my religion", "my values", "my morals" are right. "I'm a real American, you're not". It's a joke for them to say they are proud to be Americans. They are only proud to be certain Americans. If we are a divided country, it's because it's their foot that makes that line in the sand.
