Robert Jensen is a Professor of Journalism at the University of Texas and the author of _Writing Dissent_ and _Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our Humanity_. His critiques of U.S. militarism and empire-building – and the media structures that support them at home – have made him one of the most controversial figures in academia today. His new book explores the consequences of being citizens of a superpower that seeks worldwide military and economic dominance and asks “Do we have the courage to stop being Americans and be human beings? Do we care enough about ourselves and the world to struggle to claim our humanity? The rest of the world is waiting for our answer.”
Says media activist Norman Solomon, “Jensen makes a powerful case that we can stop being passive spectators and start being active co-creators of history. _Citizens of the Empire_ is a book of realism and hope – a strong antidote to the poisons of conformity and despair.”
