Fox calls at 5 p.m.: For Kerry, the network has New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine (3 out of 4 EV's), Delaware, Connecticut, D.C. For Bush, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama. Too close to call are Florida, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Missouri, Mississippi (that one's weird). The only state called where there was much doubt is New Jersey. Fox has a bad rep among Democrats, but it seems to be doing the most favorable analysis of Kerry's chances of the three networks I've been watching.

Latest exit numbers
By Steven T. Jones
Exit polls show Pennsylvania going 53-46 for Kerry, while both Florida and Ohio are 51-49 for Kerry, which probably makes them too close to call. But the Zogby poll has already calling the election for Kerry. Let's not get too excited yet, but it's a good sign.

Early returns
By Steven T. Jones
It's now 5 o'clock, the hour when the polls close in Ohio, Pennsylvania, the eastern half of Florida, and the eastern seaboard. NPR is about to announce the earliest important exit poll results. And the winner is...
Well, so far, everything is going as expected, with nothing decisive yet from the critical states. I and every other political wonk in the country is just waiting to see the projections in those three key states. Expect to hear a cheer from your neighbors if all three go for Kerry.
OK, I'm headed home to watch the results and get ready for the night...stay tuned.
