Derrick Jensen on Dismantling Civilization 11-6

by tkat
After the "election", come hear other perspectives on the future of the current "civilization"

PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY:

AK Press and Subversive Soundz present:

Author Derrick Jensen
on Dismantling Civilization

Saturday, November 6th
7pm
AK Press

Derrick Jensen is the author of books A Language Older
than Words, The Culture of Make Believe, Listening to
the Land, Walking on Water: Reading, Writing and
Revolution, and most recently, Strangely Like War: The
Global Assault on Forests and Welcome to the Machine:
Science, Surveillance and the Culture of Control.

>From Derrick Jensen: "We are members of the most
destructive culture ever to exist. Our assault on the
natural world, on indigenous and other cultures, on
women, on children, on all of us through the
possibility of nuclear suicide and other means--all
these are unprecedented in their magnitude and
ferocity. So began my first book, Listening to the
Land . Why do we act as we do? What are sane and
effective responses to outrageously destructive
behavior? What will it take for us to stop the horrors
that characterize our way of being? My work and life
revolve around these questions."

Jensen is a writer increasingly recognized as a major
new voice of cultural dissent. A Language Older Than
Words has become an underground best seller on college
campuses and The Culture of Make Believe was one of
two finalists for the 2003 J. Anthony Lukas Book
Prize, which cited it as "a passionate and provocative
meditation on the nexus of racism, genocide,
environmental destruction and corporate malfeasance,
where civilization meets its discontents."

"A typical Jensen event is multidimensional and feels
a bit like traveling beneath the earth among tree
roots, as they twist their way into soil, rock, river
beds and accompany fish, insects, discarded tires,
cellophane wrappers, animal minds, history, and human
instinct on strange and interlocking journey."

Event includes special guest Agent Apple of the Biotic
Baking Brigade.

Here's an intersting critique of the extreme left wing of North American a-historical hippie sentimentality:

fucking lame critique if ever there was one. Fuck Zerzan and Jensen they are not the leaders or owners of these critiques, and fuck you fro trying to breeze over these critiques.

this is the extension of indigenous struggle joind to the 1st world anarchy movement.

ok
1st of all, the concepts and critiques encompassed by "primitivism" or "anarco-primitivism" are not dependent upon anthropology or archeology and there findings. it is simply testiment to the fact that humans have lived in radically different ways than we do now.

2nd these threads of critique constitute a clear break with the Left and the anrchy of old. it looks at what has been taken as givens, namely: production, work, industrization, capital itself, agriculture, technology, domination of plants and animals, and progress; civilization itself.

this post-left anarchy rejects the bullshit of democracy and all its denominations, in favor of personal and local autonomy. it is a rejection of ideology, of the religion progress as well as organizationalism and of colletivism, and the rejection of making demands to those in power.

it is a step of of the formulated and calculated modern world, in to wildness, chaos, and direct action. it is not a new program, nor it THE ANSWER, it is extending anarchy to address all power structures unabashedly, the Left has mor in comman with the Right than it does with these critiques. this is the crimthinc under world, fighting the war that is going on for total liberation.

Primitivism.com--which may no longer exist, given that the link above didn't work--is hosted by a guy who has no gripe with capitalism, is opposed to revolution, and preferred not to take a stand on the US wars in the middle east.

So...to characterize primitivism as necessarily radical and path-breaking is a lie. I'd say it's more a trap for knuckle-heads.
