SWAT Team to Roam BART until election for nonspecific threats

by Chron
Have BART riders seen the SWAT team(s) yet? How many of the citizen observers are visible?

Tuesday, October 19, 2004

The SWAT team for BART police will patrol trains and stations between now and election day on Nov. 2, BART police announced Monday.

There is no specific threat against BART trains, but mass transit agencies nationwide are using SWAT teams and other high-profile units for regular patrols before the election, said Gary Gee, BART chief of police, in a released statement.

In addition to the SWAT team, extra officers will randomly patrol trains, along with bomb-sniffing dogs and BART administrative employees. Members of the SWAT team will be wearing full tactical gear.

this is clearly an early attempt to get people accustomed slowly but surely to the widespread daily presence of a totally militarized police force in every major city in the usa. the police state is merely becoming more visible to "normal" (white) people. more cops on the streets means less room between targets.

You are a freak. If you are not a criminal or a terrorist you should not be afraid of a few more 5.0 on the bart train. Maybe we would'nt have such a need for police officers if we did not let all our convicted criminals out of jail and provide programs that attract losers from other states and countries.

Maybe there are no threats against "BART" (that we know about). But are there threats against OUR country? yes. Has public transit historicly been an easy target for terrorists? Spain? Japan?

The idea that this is part of some grand plot to fool us into accepting more police is childish. Can you not even fathom that this is a measure to prevent death?
by now that empire has been restored...
the BART cops can put away their Halloween costumes and stop wasting our money.
