LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATION INTERSECTION FOR THE ARTS BOMBS DOWNTOWN SAN FRANCISCO WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ART LEAFLETS
DROPPED BY AIRPLANE AS PART OF
PAPER BULLETS: A WAR OF WORDS, A LARGE SCALE ART PROJECT

Intersection for the Arts, a San Francisco-based community arts organization, will drop tens of thousands of art leaflets via airplane over downtown San Francisco with the following message: Stop, look up at the sky, imagine and reach for a bigger and better future. Strategically timed before a critical presidential election, this project aims to remind people that democracy depends heavily on participation. In addition, art plays a major role in making democracy possible. The leaflets are created by artists Rene Garcia, Amanda Eicher and Favianna Rodriguez.

In conjunction with the flyer drop, live performers will be staging “Lookup performances” prior to the airplane drop at the intersection at 5th and Market Streets, using innovative methods encouraging San Francisco residents, visitors, and downtown workers to stop, look up at the sky, and participate.

On view in our Gallery at 446 Valencia Street in the Mission District, Paper Bullets: A War of Words is a project that brings together nine artists working in diverse mediums and representing very different life perspectives to explore and recontextualize more than fifty years of psychological warfare (in particular looking at psychological operations' leaflets dropped by governments from the air to manipulate civilian and military populations in military conflict).
