10/12: Union Sq: Jesse Jackson joins hotel workers' rally

by Local 2

Please come join us tomorrow on Union Square, to send a clear message that the hotel industry must begin treating workers, and the entire San Francisco community, with respect.
Local 2 Community Supporters,

Please join UNITE HERE! Local 2, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and other special guests for a rally in Union Square, on Tuesday, October 12th, at 4:15 p.m.

As you know, Local 2 has for months been struggling to win a fair contract with San Francisco's hotel industry. On September 29th, the union called a two-week strike at 4 hotels. Two days later, 10 other hotels retaliated by locking out their own employees. Then, last week, all 14 hotels announced that they would continue their lock out indefinitely -- keeping workers out of their jobs, and posing a real threat to the recovery of San Francisco's economy.

Please come join us tomorrow on Union Square, to send a clear message that the hotel industry must begin treating workers, and the entire San Francisco community, with respect.

Thank you,
Kelly Dugan

It is long overdue that labor cut all ties with the twin party of the capitalist Republicans, namely the capitalist Democrats, as by definition, neither represents the workingclass.

Jesse Jackson is an organized crime hustler for the Democratic Party to guarantee that blacks vote for Democrats instead of Reds, Greens or anyone who challenges the Chamber of Commerce candidates who happen to be Democrats. Here in San Francisco, he actively campaigned on behalf of pro-landlord, anti-rent control, organized crime election-frauding thug "mayor" Willie Brown, and his Chamber of Commerce successor pro-landlord, anti-rent control election-frauding "mayor" Gavin Newsom. He also loudly proclaimed his opposition to gay marriage in the name of upholding family values, while he demonstates his contempt for family values with his womanizing and having a child by one of his girlfriends, while married.

This is the short list of the Jesse Jackson hustle. His role in the assassination of Martin Luther King is suspect, and his lies about his childhood and his becoming a preacher, which occupation in and of itself is a con game and anti-science, round out a picture of someone who does not belong at any labor rally.

The Jesse Jackson and the rest of the Democatic Party con game is over. If this labor rally allows Jesse Jackson or any other Democratic Party official to speak, it is a signal that once again a sellout is in the works. In fact, since this rally is being held on a weekday in the afternoon, instead of a weekend day, and with no mass mobilization of the workingclass in the Bay Area, and the Democratic Party's favorite con artist, Jesse Jackson, being featured, the sellout stink is already wafting over this hotel strike.

Can anyone name a strike in the past 15 years in which Jesse Jackson's intervention has helped the workers *win*? Yea, I know he's helped mediate strikes to settlement, but has he ever used his name-status to support strategies that actually strengthen the workers position? Or is he the Jimmy Carter of american labor relations--using his "credibility" to smooth over conflict in the ultimate interests of the american ruling class?

Twenty seconds of Jackson's pitying words and rhetoric about being hopeful on the evening news don't scare the hotel owners. What they fear is a growing movement of hotel workers and unionized and non-unionized workers and community supporters that defies the restrictions placed on the strikers (noise ordinances, picket parameters etc) and threatens to shut the scab operations down.

Is Jackson going to make a moral plea for this course of action? If not, what the hell good is he?
