The new and inspired team at Cellspace's MEDIA ARTS LAB are developing exciting opportunites to gather digital skills and interact with the Mission district's distinctly creative activism in a friendly , highy-colorful and community-oriented environment.

Workshops for VIDEO and RADIO activism, making WEBSITES, digital PHOTOGRAPHY, CINEMATOGRAPHY and TV production ... and even an intro to Macintosh COMPUTERS in Spanish - Introducion a Computadoras de Macintosh en ESPANOL.

Classes at CELLspace are coordinated by the learning labs cluster. We are devoted to developing and maintaining educational programs at CELLspace based on the needs of the community and the available resources at the space. We aim to expand the CELLspace community through recruiting new teachers, the completion of outreach projects, the development of youth programs and the scheduling of classes.

One of the most important communication channels and art forms in the struggle to reclaim and resonate authentic culture and autonomous community in this era of corporate consolidation, information war and hyper-consuming global capitalism is RADIO ACTIVISM. Because of its widespread access, low-cost and low-tech ease, and minimal production time, radio’s ability to spread urgent messages and remain one of the crucial freezones in the communications spectrum make it indispensable to any ARTIVIST’s tool kit.

Introduction to Video Art Activism
Instructor: Annie Maribona

In the image saturated environment in which we live, making video is a very effective way to talk back to the media we are inundated with. This class is an introduction to video making. We will first get acquainted with the camera and discuss the basic elements of moviemaking, narrative and alternative approaches. We will watch movies, discuss history, and learn the basics of video editing using Final Cut Pro.
