San Jose Hip Hop Community Organizing and Unifying Power (COUP) brings together artists, musicians, and youth to address the issues of the "Hip Hop Generation." The free conference, "Beyond the Elements: Reconnecting Hip Hop and Social Change," will take place on Saturday, October 2, at the San Jose State University Student Union from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The purpose of the conference is to create dialogue on how hip hop can be used as a tool for social change.

The keynote speaker is internationally respected scholar Dr. Tricia Rose, chair of the American Studies Department at UC Santa Cruz. The conference will address topics such as women in hip hop, voter education, police and community relations, and youth activism. The conference will also feature local artists, film screenings, vendors & music.
