Youth Together has been kind enough to facilitate
their "Cycles of Violence" training for the ENI
Teacher's Group before our next meeting. The training
will taking place from 6pm-7pm, this Monday, September
20th (PLEASE BE ON TIME!!) at the Eastside Arts
Alliance (prior to our teacher working group meeting
that will begin there at 7pm). This training is
important because the training sounds fantastic (it is
designed for working with high school students) and is
a way for us to learn from folks in the youth
movement. It is essential that we turn out for this
training as we have been working hard to build a
relationship with Youth Together and this will be our
first event together. They are spending their time
and organizing energy to come to us, so it is
important
that we make it worth their time and show them that
their organization is important to us. People are
welcome and encouraged to attend the Youth Together
Cycles of Violence training even if they are not
planning on going to the teacher meeting.
The ENI Teacher's Working Group will follow the
training. The working group is in the process of
developing two sets of curriculum (one for elementary
school, one for secondary school) centered around
violence--it's root causes and alternative ways to
address violence as a social problem that don't
involve increased policing and increased
incarceration. The meeting is at the Eastside Arts
Alliance, which is located at 2587 International Blvd.
in Oakland. It is accessible by AC Transit #81 and the
Fruitville BART.
