1. Next ENI Teacher's Group: Training + Meeting
Youth Together has been kind enough to facilitate
their "Cycles of Violence" training for the ENI
Teacher's Group before our next meeting. The training
will taking place from 6pm-7pm, this Monday, September
20th (PLEASE BE ON TIME!!) at the Eastside Arts
Alliance (prior to our teacher working group meeting
that will begin there at 7pm). This training is
important because the training sounds fantastic (it is
designed for working with high school students) and is
a way for us to learn from folks in the youth
movement. It is essential that we turn out for this
training as we have been working hard to build a
relationship with Youth Together and this will be our
first event together. They are spending their time
and organizing energy to come to us, so it is important
that we make it worth their time and show them that
their organization is important to us. People are
welcome and encouraged to attend the Youth Together
Cycles of Violence training even if they are not
planning on going to the teacher meeting.

The ENI Teacher's Working Group will follow the
training. The working group is in the process of
developing two sets of curriculum (one for elementary
school, one for secondary school) centered around
violence--it's root causes and alternative ways to
address violence as a social problem that don't
involve increased policing and increased
incarceration. The meeting is at the Eastside Arts
Alliance, which is located at 2587 International Blvd.
in Oakland. It is accessible by AC Transit #81 and the
Fruitville BART.

If you need childcare please call Carolyn in advance
at 510.923.0670. Refreshments will be provided.

3. Freedom School Opening in Richmond - This Friday!
"The Opening of the Making Changes Center/Freedom
School in Richmond will be this Friday, September 17,
6:00pm. The Making Changes Center/Freedom School will
provide free classes for the community and seeks to
help create fundamental change in our world. It is
our proactive dream come true. We know that
communities in SF, Oakland and Berkeley have many
great organizations that are doing great community
work, but in Richmond we have very few (but we do have
the Chevron Corporation polluting our air and a
monstrous Casino in San Pablo). We seek to change
that."

JOIN US! Please note Fasters Fred Jackson, Wendy
Gonzalez, Israel Haros, Jessica Vasquez, Karina Oliva
and Cesar A. Cruz are all just a small part of the
many organizers and community members that are turning
this dream into reality. Admission with a $5 donation,
$10 includes dinner On the Menu: BBQ Chicken,
Enchiladas, Pozole, Salads and more. 6:00p.m. Dinner
(served til 7:30p.m.). Many poets, musicians, and
visual artists are scheduled to perform. Plus the
ENDdependent Making Changes Bookstore will open at
7:30p.m. For more information, please call:
510-215-7598.

Directions: The Making Changes Center is BART
accesible-2 blocks away from Richmond BART. Take BART
to Richmond and exit through the back side towards
Barrett Ave. Walk two blocks down 18th, left on
Pennsylvania, right on 17th until you reach 633 17th
Street.

4. Education Rising Rally - September 21 at UC
Berkeley
From September 15-22, a group of students and
community members will walk from San Jose to UC
Berkeley to dramatize our concern for the future of
education and youth rights in California. We believe
our state should value the welfare of its citizens and
make the future of the state (i.e., its youth) a top
priority. Our hope is to collaborate with our sisters
and brothers throughout the state in the struggle to
claim the basic rights and opportunities society
promised us.

Along the way, we will visit as many community, state,
and private colleges as possible, to dialogue with our
fellow Californians and build a person-by-person
comprehensive understanding of how the state's skewed
political priorities are impacting its citizens.

***RALLY AT SPROUL PLAZA – SEPT. 21, 4:00 P.M.***
Upon arriving in Berkeley, we will mark the walk’s
culmination by gathering at Sproul Plaza, the historic
celebratory hub of numerous past student movements. In
addition to music and spoken word performances, the
program will include speeches by various inspiring
activists, student leaders, and walk participants.

If you would like to participate in the walk (either
the entire walk or just a portion of it) or would like
to offer any other form of support, please email us
at future [at] riseup.net or call Education Rising at (831)
454-0829.
