Peninsula Peace and Justice Center will hold a peace vigil to commemorate the 1000th death of a U.S. soldier in the Iraq war. As of September 8, 1001 U.S. soldiers, 131 Coalition soldiers, and over 11,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed. Despite the U.S. government's proclamation of victory in Iraq over a year ago, and the declaration of an end to the occupation two months ago, the fighting continues. Vigilers will hold signs mourning those who have died and calling for a true end to the occupation of Iraq. The vigil will be part of a national day of peace actions taking place in hundreds of cities and towns across the country.
