Millikan Middle School & Performing Arts Magnet in
Sherman Oaks, Californiaunder the direction of Principal Dr. Norm Issacs has received countless awards for Performing Arts, Environmental Science and Academic achievement.

On October 4, 2004 at Aldama Elementary Dr.Issacs will accept the Green Flag Award, one of the nations most prestigious environmental awards for student and teacher
initiated environmental projects.

With the support of outstanding teachers like Deborah Woolford, Ellen Maisen, Dr. Clum and the Science Academy, students have planted dozens of roses, built
more than 150 concrete benches with mosaic tiles,
( recycled materials), created a butterfly sanctuary, turtle
pond, and are almost finished with an outdoor
stage. Under the direction of Ms. Michel students have surrounded the campus with beautiful murals using environmental themes.

Beneficial Insect presentations to science classes by internationally celebrated William Currie, and California Safe Schools (CSS), have increased awareness of alternatives
to pesticides. Green lace wings, ladybugs, and other beneficial insects are often released into
the gardens.

Recycling containers in and outside the classrooms,
and and posters designed by famed illustrator Michael
Bruza and CSS - DONT FEED PESTS, USE TRASH BINS! help keep the campus clean.

On April 26th, 2004 Millikan Middle School & California
Safe Schools held an Environmental Press Conference "United For Safety". Presentations were made by the California Environmental Protection Agency, political representatives, regulatory agencies, and environmentalists. Guests were entertained by Roberto Miranda's Conga Orchestra, Billie Burkes Dance Ensemble, and the Leo. Krupsack Choir.
