NO ON MEASURE Y: No More Cops!
Meeting, Tomorrow (Wednesday, September 1st, 6-8PM) at the Eastside Arts Alliance at 2587 International Blvd., on the 82 Bus Line and near Fruitville BART.
ENDORSEMENT/ FUNDING FORM AND MORE INFORMATION IS BELOW...
Oakland's Measure Y is a "violence prevention" measure, a regressive tax, that misses its mark. Its main focus on solving violence is putting more police on the streets in Oakland. Join organizations and individuals throughout the Bay Area in saying no to more police and demanding that funds be raised to support programs that really help our community, such as recreation centers, job-programs for youth, health care centers, adequate education and more.

VOTE NO ON MEASURE Y
The Police Department is dysfunctional, we already pay $millions in lawsuits every year; 63 new officers will not help;
Violence will be reduced when communities receive coordinated services such as healthcare, adequate education, jobs, food, and housing;
Neophyte, non-resident police damage the community by criminalizing our youth more than can be repaired by the limited programs here;
The City is currently laying off workers in recreation centers and libraries; more will be fired to keep these police and fire services when this special tax ends;
Measure Y is a regressive tax, where people who own $2 million homes pay the same as people who own $200,000 homes; the tax will be passed on to renters;
Police don't want to be accountable to the community; they are walking out of the Police Review Board hearings;
There is no workable plan for "violence prevention;" police do not prevent crime and without good community relations they have a hard time catching perpetrators – this won’t help;
Oakland needs to put money into addressing the causes of violence, not into regressive tax measures that do nothing for our communities.
