ACTION ALERT: WE NEED CONAN THE RIPARIAN IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE!

Its time to find out if our new Governor will stand up for rivers!

Friends of the River has help shepherd three bills through the state
legislature and they now sit on Governor Schwarzenegger's desk. Together,
these bills would provide protections and improve the health of California's
rivers for generations to come.

***SB904: CALIFORNIA WILD AND SCENIC RIVERS PROTECTION ACT. This bill
clarifies the California Wild & Scenic Rivers Act to ensure that state
agencies protect state-designated rivers in the course of their normal
regulatory duties and other activities. To urge the Governor to sign:

***SB1155: PROTECT WATER QUALITY IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY-DELTA. Currently,
up to 60% of the all the fresh water would normally flowed through the Delta
and into the San Francisco Bay is diverted south. This bill would prohibit
any increased diversions of Delta water until state and federal agencies
prepare and implement a plan to meet all water quality standards in the
Delta. In other words, additional Delta diversions would not be allowed
until Delta water meets acceptable standards for drinking, agricultural use,
and aquatic life. Take action:

***AB2572: WATER METER BILL. Some of Calfornia's largest cities don't have
water meters. This lack of metering has resulted in Los Angeles using 1/8 of
the water per person as Sacramento. This bill mandates that all California
cities over 3,000 people implement a water metering system and provides a 20
year time frame for implementation. All new housing units would be required
to have functional meters right away. Take Action:

Dam huggers and water buffaloes will have their lobbyists fighting these
bills even as they head for the governor's office. Your letters of support
can make the difference. Join Friends of the River's effort to protect our
precious river resources by sending your comment to the governor today!
