Irene Natividad, President of the Global Summit of Women, contends that women are the most significant players in the global economy. Governments' efforts to create sustainable economies and corporations' ability to project future growth globally will depend on the extent to which they respond to the needs of women as workers, consumers and entrepreneurs. Natividad states that “women's aggregate economic clout poses a shift in the argument for positive change affecting women -- from one based on need to one based on power.”

The Global Summit of Women is a 14-year-old annual gathering of women leaders in the public and private sector. Ms. Natividad also co-chairs Corporate Women Directors International, which promotes the increased participation of women on corporate boards globally. She runs a Washington D.C-based public affairs firm, Globewomen, Inc, and is a frequent commentator on news and analysis television programs and has written for many national newspapers. Ms. Natividad is former chair of the National Commission on Working Women

Background:
The International Museum of Women (IMOW) is hosting a series of lectures by women from around the world who have important ideas concerning the future. The series provides an open forum for the exchange of ideas, opinions and perspectives from some of the most influential social activists of our time.

This is the second event in the series. In January, celebrated author Riane Eisler was the series’ inaugural speaker.

IMOW is a world-class cultural and educational institution dedicated to honoring the lives of women worldwide. It plans to open in 2008 at Pier 26 in San Francisco. Founded in 1985, IMOW produces exhibits and events that engage people of all ages – provoking them to question the status quo through an examination of individual identity, cultural structures and social order. Our mission is to value the lives of women around the world. For more information, visit http://www.imow.org.
