Thursday, August 26th, 9pm - 1am:
District 5 Supervisor Candidates Michael O'Connor and Robert Haaland invite you to: The Get Down : Think Outside the Box.
Performers: dj Page Hodel, David Harness, Dj Pause, The Momma's Boyz, and District 5 Supervisor Candidates Robert Haaland AND Michael O'Connor
Robert Haaland and Michael O'Connor, both candidates for Supervisor in District 5, announced today that they are hosting a joint fundraiser--the first time in San Francisco that two candidates for the same seat have joined together for a fundraiser for their campaigns. The event will be on August 26th at the Independent, 628 Divisadero at 9 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be shared by both candidates' campaigns.
Haaland and O'Connor see the event and their partnership as a new direction for San Francisco politics, basing their campaigns on what unites San Franciscans rather than what divides them. Club owner and candidate O'Connor said, "Divisadero was home to the legendary Box events, a Thursday night dance club which brought together a wonderfully eclectic mix of San Francisco night life. Young, old, gay, straight, men, women, all races--everyone came to the Box. Robert and I want to bring that inclusiveness back to Divisadero and into District 5 politics as well."
Currently represented by Supervisor Matt Gonzalez, who is not seeking reelection, the District 5 race has a field of over 20 candidates. Over the last few months, many of the candidates, including Haaland and O'Connor, have participated in a Candidates Collaborative attempting to bring cooperation and civility to the race.
DJ Page Hodel, the producer of the Box, will be spinning records for this unusual event. David Harness and DJ Pause will also be at the event. There will also be a special live appearance by THE MOMMA'S BOYZ, an incredible old-school hip hop drag king performance group. There is a guest emcee appearance by Tom Ammiano.
