The death of her brother brought Canadian/American artist Paula Levine to Israel for the first time. BURIALS AND BORDERS is an intensely personal chronicle of her return there, encompassing a mournful farewell to Justin and a politically charged journey to Israel’s Golan Heights, where he is buried. Formerly part of Syria, the Golan is slated for repatriation. In the film, Levine explores the multiple meanings of this shift; geographically, to the people living within borders instantly re-drawn around them, and emotionally, losing her brother all over again.
