Bay Area joins Nationwide battle for Central Park rally permit.
Our dissent will not be silenced!!

Press conferences nationwide will be held to announce details of the campaign for a permit to rally on the Great Lawn in Central Park. A press conference will be held Monday August 16th, in San Francisco at 2 p.m. on the steps of City Hall.

The Not in Our Name Project joins Code Pink, United for Peace and Justice, American Muslim Voice, Blue Triangle Network and many more to announce the launch of a massive campaign for a permit to rally on the Great Lawn of Central Park on August 29th, 2004. A permit for a rally on the West Side Highway granted by the city has been rejected by rally organizing group United for Peace and Justice, and a full scale battle is being waged with Mayor Bloomberg’s office for the rights of protesters to gather in Central Park on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

Protests in New York City during the Republican National Convention promise to draw unprecedented numbers from all around the nation and world – including many thousand from California. This is not simply a local New York issue. This is national in scope, international in interest, and will impact political discourse in the United States for years to come.

“Mayor Bloomberg said this isn’t about politics, but this whole battle for a permit couldn’t be more political,” argues Tanya Mayo, Bay Area Organizer and National Coordinator for the Not In Our Name project, “It’s a battle for our right to dissent in this country. We must win the permit for Central Park, because if we don’t, precedent will be set for protest to be severely marginalized from here on out. Ultimately, this is a battle for our collective futures, from the streets of New York City to Baghdad. We have a right to protest in this country, and we have the right to protest unjust wars on the people of the world.”

Details of the campaign, as well as local plans for support of nationwide efforts will be given at press conferences Monday in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco.

What are a bunch of nonviolent people gonna do inna police state in NYC except follow orders or get there asses kicked and thrown in jail? It's all very self-sacrificial like the Oakland docks where police pointed guns at people and they all couldn't wait to get hit and be a victim. Pure charade. Anyone with real sense ducks and runs when guns are pointed at them. Fight or flight is the natural response, sit like a duck is not.

The funny thing is that activists actually think that oppressed people in this society will adopt their thoroughly middle-class postures of discontent. I guarantee that oppressed people in this country will never accept such self-sacrificial middle-class postures like standing in harms way, it just will not happen. I don't think being a victim to the same state power as Iraqis accomplishes anything except easing the conscience of individuals who are getting a state spanking.

No one is facing live ammunition and no one will get more than a slap on the wrist even for their hundredth nonviolent arrest, which is already known, so why the charade? Why do people posture as revolutionaries and speak of revolutions when they refuse to depart from what is organized and accepted in our society? If anyone does want to use force, why would they do it in the midst of a police state under police supervision?

What if the antiwar demonstrators end up being collateral damage in a terrorist attack on the Republicans? Will there be a reaction by the left of disgust toward the terrorists? Do you think the terrorists should respect us, therefore not attack?

If you don't think the war is at home, then you're deluded, and he who enters a battlefield unprepared for war is a sacrificial lamb. I prefer not to put myself in harms way or sacrifice my body and person for exactly zero victory, or symbolic victory or stylistic victory. But that is what people are doing and so they should not complain if they are assaulted by police or terrorists.

The major aftermath of most of these type of events if there is any clash with police is mass complaining and crying of how mean and harsh the police were, litigation etc. I’ve only seen foreign footage of people kicking cops asses, or I’ve seen footage of drunken Americans or drunken Canadians kicking cops asses up and down the street. The anti-war movement should have done it from the gate, aren’t we more pissed off than a bunch of sports fans or drunken revelers, apparently not. On the first day of the war we should have kicked some cop ass and grew some cahones, but that my friend is way too much to ask.

If nonviolent direct action were successful, first off it would not dogmatically and moralistically reject other forms of resistance. Secondly you would see the numbers in the blockades in the thousands instead of hoping to get maybe 20 people to commit to an action. But instead the tactics chosen have castrated the movement, alienated the constituency, and emboldened the police, while we are all busy policing ourselves and each other as certain not to actually leave the parameters of middle-class respectability in any way except pure posturing(my clothes, my hair, my piercings, my sexual behavior). Calling such a standoff or ass-kicking a victory may be self-assuring for activists but it is certainly not a victory for anyone living in the real world.

Those Republicans coming to the RNC are completely responsible for a mass amount of suffering across the world and if all people do is talk mean to them, try to offend them and cause a little disturbance then I say that people who know the enormity of American crimes have fallen short of the responsibility to physically restrain the Republicans from committing any more genocide. Anything short of that you should not be wasting your resources, energy, planning etc., and should be saving and building for a time when people are prepared to physically restrain the murderers.

I also believe that the conspicuous absence of the left in any significant numbers at the zionist DNC is an indication of shameful capitulation that was orchestrated by so-called lefties(soft new age leaders) and followed by the left constituency. The left should purge itself of this leadership intent on capitulation. The left should purge itself of its stylistic retardation, standards of dress and slackness that it imposes on people. There should also be a hunt for zionists among us, as they seem to pop up as organizers of Critical Mass(Dan Kliman), head of the AFSC middle-east desk(Solomonov), etc., and I am certain that the so-called left has a million more zionists well placed among us. Liberals should cease to have any credibility on the left, David, they are using us for their own reform and power and that's all! They will be the first to crack down on dissent. They are less tolerant of dissent than the Republicans. They ride on the coat-tails of Republican repression and then step in to really stick it to you! Protest conditions under a Democratic administration are not so bad BECAUSE NO ONE PROTESTS THE DEMOCRATS!

I did read George Lakeys response to Ward Churchill and unfortunately I see the issue completely polarized between differing identities, with a legacy of anti-imperialism on one side and new age universalist politics on the other. The funny thing is that it is not the traditionalists who are being rigid, but it is the new-age pacifists who are making the dogmatic assertion that violence is acceptable under zero circumstances. Which makes absolutely no sense to me, pacifists mean to say that if a woman is being attacked or raped she shouldn’t resist, she should be nonviolent. And we know that there is rape and much worse being committed globally and it is somehow "wrong" to resist with force or violence. Or that all the ‘other’ people in the world should resist with their lives and we should just take a little time out of our busy schedules to do a little dance in the street, and voila we’ve done our part for the revolution!?!

I understand that gay and feminist politics are a big part of the left out here, and the arguments being made for nonviolence are being made primarily by gays and feminists. That is fine but they should realize that they are reflecting their world view in their position, and even according to their own philosophies should not try to force their beliefs on other people. But if people try to dominate with their issue and their subsequent world view then they have closed off any potential for real growth. For example gay rights is not the issue for the war in Iraq, in fact trying to force Iraqis or people who oppose the Iraq war to accept gays is about on par with the US saying that Iraqis must follow our enlightened path of democracy. Maybe people just don’t understand what imperialism or cultural imperialism actually is. Hint, it’s all over the stylistic left with people well self-assured of their enlightenment and superior progressive lifestyle The world is not starving for new lifestyles or new identities and that is about the extent of what the left is offering. Until people realize that their new age stylistic politics are not revolutionary, they are thoroughly assimilationist, they should not expect regular Americans or the rest of the world to join them, support them or view them as other than an entrenched subculture in late stage capitalism, without much power or much real dissent at all.

I have to agree with the cynical voice above that nothing will be accomplished by sitting in a square in NYC. Those people are bought and sold in that city by some of the richest and greediest and most corrupt in the world.

If you want to get your message across, raise money for mass media. The fascist pigs own every air slot with propaganda and distractions. We can not even get in a whisker, often due to price considerations.

On another note, if you want to know how to launder money I have included a link below as I am an ex bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in San Francisco. I have been silenced by criminals in government in San Francisco once again. There are some true fascist federalies there. They are like mexican mafia and will kill a man like a flea as they did with the past FDIC director in San Francisco. Money launderers R US.

The link with active links is the first link in New Orleans but the best reading is the second link in Santa Cruz. (The links got garbled in Santa Cruz)
