Call to Organize Local Antiwar Actions on August 29
But if you cannot make it to New York City on August 29, we urge you to organize local August 29 actions of any and all sorts. It will be very powerful to have hundreds of local actions to amplify our demand to bring the troops home now and reject the entire Bush Agenda.
Organize Local Antiwar Actions on August 29!
August 15th, 2004
AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION!
Sunday, August 29, the eve of the Republican National Convention, is a crucial date to stage peace and justice actions that can help shape public opinion going into the November election. As Bush is coronated by his corporate, military and fundamentalist cronies, we must upstage him with a peace and justice message.
We need the largest and broadest possible turnout in New York City for our protest, a legal and permitted march past the site of the Republican Convention. The NYPD and the Republicans have already begun a fear campaign designed to keep people away from this historic event, and we need everyone who possibly can to join us in the streets of New York.
But if you cannot make it to New York City on August 29, we urge you to organize local August 29 actions of any and all sorts. It will be very powerful to have hundreds of local actions to amplify our demand to bring the troops home now and reject the entire Bush Agenda.
Target the local Bush/Cheney campaign headquarters, the Republican Party offices or whatever venue works best in your town. Hold marches, demonstrations, vigils or teach ins. Fill the local airwaves with antiwar messages. We already know of actions being planned in Chicago, IL; San Luis Obispo, CA; Santa Fe, NM; and Detroit Lakes, MN – but how about we aim for actions in every single state!
With the country and the people of the world watching, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make our voices heard!
Post your event at http://www.unitedforpeace.org and email us at info [at] unitedforpeace.org so the whole world will know of your participation.
In solidarity,
United for Peace and Justice

Please. Give it a rest. The action is in NY, not here. For once, just stay home and watch it on TV. Spare the rest of us from another pointless "direct action" event.
Sit home and watch television? Fuck that. I'm up for a local demo if you guys are.
Don't sit at home while innocents die. No blood for oil!
Fine. You want to protest? Take Greyhound to NY and leave the rest of us alone. The party is NOT here, guys.
If you don't like it, stay home and watch TV. By the way redneck, how are your friends at protestwarrior doing?
Hey, The Republicans are a minority fringe party here in SF. Its the DEMOCRATS THAT ARE SUPPORTING THE WAR, and using the Republicans to take the heat.
Want to stop the war?
Turn up the heat on the street. Take a few demonstrations to the DEMOCRATIC PARTY HEADQUARTERS. It is Kerry who wants even more troops to Iraq, more money to Israel, and doesn't want gay marriage.
Lesser Evil...Democrats?....Better think that through.

Flag Draped Box
Dyin' in the dirt in Baghdad
110 in the shade
When I joined the Army
People acted like I had it made
You'll ride around in Humvees
you'll get a machine gun
People will throw you flowers
And its God's work you'll have done
A Blackhawk down
Or a roadside device
or an ambush in every town
they lost their battle for hearts and minds
and they failed to win mine
Coughing up that Baghdad dirt
and radioactive blood
The Oil Barons just wouldn't wait
and push came to shove
I can see it all so clearly now
with my blood running in my eyes
Out there dyin' for oil
out there dyin for lies
out here dyin for a few rich men
who said bring it on - our war without end.
They wasted billions of dollars
on shock and awe
and told us a pack of lies
they killed thousands of innocent people
and a thousand of our GI's
Dyin in the dirt in Baghdad
under the scorching sun
It wasn't supposed to be like this
they said war was fun
You'll ride around in humvees
shooting machine guns
we’ll show the world on the TV
Show them war is fun
(solo/interlude)
They'll ship me home
in a flag-draped box
and give me some permanent shade
When I joined the army
everybody said I had it made.....
You'll ride around in humvees
shooting machine guns
people will throw you flowers
and it’s gods work you’ve done.

Any anarchists, anti-authoritarians and other reolutionaries, let's plan a local demo. I'm pretty sure that we can get a good protest going, especially in San Francisco. Many can't go to New York, so we should organize resistance here. Anyone interested let's get in touch. Email me at soadskt [at] aol.com .
I agree that there should be no protest in SF. I mean, the RNC has nothing to do with SF. There are no kids here between the ages of 18-28 (those eligible for the draft if Bush wins), we have no popular voice when it comes to protest (they had their day in the 60s and 70s), and we are a city basically with very little diversity (go to Kansas for that). Wait...that sounds odd. Actually I think we should just wait for riots, fires, demolition, and war in our own streets when Bush wins in Nov. Wait...that doesn't sound right either. We are a city of lazy people: no hills to climb, lots of parking, cheap bars everywhere, cheap rent, plenty of jobs that pay really good salleries. Wait...I think...yeah...that sounds a little false. What do you think we should do?
What, and you think there'll be no draft if that warmonger Kerry wins? Give me a break.
There's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. They two faces of the same party, the capitalist party. The president is only a figurehead. He doesn't run the government. The government doesn't run the country. Corporations run the country. Corporations run the world. Protest will never bring them down. We need a a global revolution. Work for that, or your wasting your time.
Protest!??! Give me a break. If you really think the men who rule us care what you think, what your signs say or what your giant puppets look like, you weren't paying attention last spring. People protested by the tens of millions, on four continents. Did it end the war? No. Did it even stop the invasion of Iraq? Not even a little bit. This is not democracy. Our opinions do not count. To the men who rule us, all our hopes and dreams are completely irrelevant. If you want our opinions to count, rebel. Cast down our rulers, and anyone who tries to take their place. Nothing less will matter.
