EQUALITY CALIFORNIA/MARRIAGE EQUALITY CALIFORNIA

<<<ACTION ALERT>>>
Prepare to Mobilize Tomorrow in Response to Pending California Supreme Court Decision on San
Francisco Marriages....THURSDAY, AUGUST 12th!

Please pass this on to friends and supporters. Bring signs, non-gay supporters, marriage
licenses pictures and your sense of justice for same-sex couples and their children.

EQCA/MECA ACTION ALERT:

The California Supreme Court will issue its decision in Lockyer v. San Francisco this Thursday,
August 12, at 10 a.m. The main issue in this case is whether San Francisco had the authority to
issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. It is likely that the court will also rule on
whether the marriages of the same-sex couples who married in San Francisco are valid. We will
post this decision to our websites the moment it is issued at both http://www.marriageequalityca.org
and http://www.eqca.org.

STATEWIDE RALLIES PLANNED FOR TOMORROW - THE DAY OF THE COURT DECISION

EQCA/MECA Statewide Media Contacts:
Los Angeles: Geoff Kors, Executive Director 415-626-3722
San Francisco: Molly McKay, Assoc. Executive Director 510-332-0872
Sacramento: Steve Hansen: Legislative Analyst 916-554-7681
San Diego: Jeffrey Mittman, Special Projects Manager 619-692-2077

List of Local Actions Planned for Day of Court Decision:

(Regardless of what the court decides, the day after the decision on Friday, August 13, 2004,
whereever you live, please go to your local county clerk's office and ask for a marriage license
-- do it with a group of friends, or do it with only you and your partner --Addresses for your
county clerk's office are posted below the local actions.)

(Remember -- this court decision goes only to the narrow question about whether Mayor Newsom had
the authority to issue the marriage licenses. The bigger question about whether the current
discriminatory marriage law is Constitutional will be decided in lawsuits pending in the lower
courts and/or by passing the Marriage License Non-Discrimination Act next year. Keep checking
our websites for Media Talking Points and further information.)
