Any west coast anti-RNC actions?
For those of us who can't make it to NYC, are there any anti-RNC events planned for the Bay Area?

The World Says No To Bush
After your avalanche of positive responses to my inquiry, we are DEFINITELYdoing a march and rally on SUNDAY, AUGUST 29th to have Santa Barbara be partof THE WORLD SAYS NO TO BUSH DAY, coinciding with a major march in NewYork City at the onset of the Republican National Convention.
10:30 a.m.: Pre-march gathering at Vera Cruz Park (Cota Street)
11:00 a.m.: begin march along Cota St. to State Street. March up Stateto Museum of Art corner, turn right onto Anapamu, proceed to County CourtHouse Garden. We will have the entire width of the street to walk on.
12:30 ish: gathering in Court House Garden for a few statements(including one by Mayor Marty Blum) and hopefully some music, with the eventending no later than 3:00 pm. Many feel it shouldn¹t be TOO long, so maybearound 2:00 pm end would be better.
All further details about the content and emphasis of the march and rallyare still being developed, and YOUR IDEAS AND WISHES ARE VERY WELCOME! THISIS YOUR MARCH AND RALLY! Whether you contribute ideas etc as an individualor as a representative of a group which might participate, please email meor contact me at 452-2053.
In general: I have received comments that express a need for 'living anddemonstrating the alternative to the Bush world' and for keeping the tenorof the event positive and constructive. I fully agree with this direction.Although I also feel that a way of 'expressing our outrage' is equallyimportant, I hope we can find imaginative and uplifting ways to make ourfeelings known.
Segments of the march can be quiet and thoughtful, and other segments can behighly energized by percussion, dancing, and our bare and truthful voices!Crazy costumes, make-up, and colorful signs and banners with new phraseswould be great. Or groups could wear coordinated outfits of some sort andhave rehearsed chants and/or movements. But overall, let's let the eventremain as unstructured as possible to allow for everyone's manner ofexpression.
SAFETY will also be a key factor. We have a permit to march on the fullstreet traffic lanes, so the SB Police will protect us from vehicle trafficand disruptions, and I want to assure anyone who is hesitant about joiningsuch an event for safety reasons that this event WILL be safe for all whowant to participate, including children and the somewhat frail. Now that it's official, YOU can really help make this a giant event bySPREADING THE NEWS and encouraging people to mark it in their calendar now.If you have other means of spreading the word - newsletters, announcementsat meetings, etc. please start publicizing it now. I hope more officialpublicity blurbs, flyers, announcements for printed media, etc can begenerated and distributed soon. Your help there would also be appreciated -contact me!
More updates soon.
Be well -
