South Berkeley Community Garden For Sale

(this message was sent out on 7/26)

Dear folks,

A little more than a week ago I sent out an appeal for the South
Berkeley Community Garden which has been put up for sale (http://www.indybay.org/news/2004/07/1689311.php) . We are still
working hard to save it, and I want to clarify some confusion that has
occurred:

First, the South Berkeley Community Garden is on Martin Luther King Jr.
Way and Oregon St. in south Berkeley and has existed since 1987. It is
not our new Urban Garden Center on Sacramento and Oregon Streets in
southwest Berkeley, which is only a year old and is not in jeopardy.
While Spiral Gardens (formerly aka the BOSS Urban Gardening Institute)
will continue to exist without the South Berkeley Community Garden,
every effort must be made to preserve it.

Secondly, by some bugaboo of fate, my email server went down immediately
after the appeal. The problem has finally been remedied so if you
replied, please be kind enough to do so again.

Finally, if you were daunted by the half of million dollars we need to
buy the South Berkeley Community Garden, please consider donating
whatever amount you can to help Spiral Gardens in our work to create and
preserve greenspace, community commons, and urban agriculture in the
East Bay. We have the tenacity of a weed, but a little fertilizer would
really help right now.

Please send checks made out to Spiral Gardens to:
