JOBS ACTION COMING UP ON JULY 31st
Just Cause has been sponsoring a sister campaign called Economic Security is Community Security and it is starting to pick up steam! Come through to their first big action in a couple weeks. Here is the info:
Guess who's moving in next door?
Oakland is set to open the biggest retail development in its history, with Wal-Mart as its anchor retailer. Is Wal-Mart, a corporation known for racist and sexist hiring and firing policies, union-busting, low wages and for squeezing out small businesses a good neighbor? Why does Wal-Mart get our tax dollars to locate in Oakland, but we get nothing in return?
We want reparations from these corporations!

That's right, just say no to job! How DARE Walmart even think about opening a store in crime infested, blighted, drug addled Oakland! You expect people to work? NO! Services for everyone! Responsibility for no one! Gimme gimme gimme. Grow up or starve.
* Studies show that for every two jobs created by a Wal-Mart store, the community loses three. Jobs that are retained by a community are merely shifted from local businesses to the giant retailer.
* Discrimination -- class action lawsuits against Wal-Mart are underway.
* History of violating labor laws
* No union
* No benefits -- because of Wal-Mart's huge employee premium payments and big deductibles, most workers don't have healthcare
* Many workers are forced to work part-time instead of full-time
* Lower tax base: Studies show in the years following the arrival of Wal-Mart, town tax receipts have grown at a declining rate, or actually decreased. The study said that "the expected growth in income taxes may have been offset by low-wage jobs offered by the large retailer and by the loss of employment in competing businesses. . . ."
* Long history of violating of workers compensation laws for on-the-job injuries.

Get over your delusions and go lock yourselves on the fringes, aka in the suburbs. You seem like you always try and suggest that we are in some sort of delusional bubble, but maybe you should just sit down take a deep breath and reflect on your delusions a little more. You represent yourself as a San Francisco resident when you actually a San Mateo resident right? Why is this? Do you feel that it gives you more credibility to say that you actually live in the city? Are you one of the many folks that decided to flee from the city when faced with integration? Maybe you should find other channels to vent your misguided frustration? Cause it seems like most of us on this site either understand your delusions and disfunction, or you are preaching to the choir - in the case of all the delusional people from the right wing and wrong side of things that troll this website in the hopes of getting off by posting comments that might stir controversy or deep thought. Not everyone needs to be confronted with your privaledge and lack of thought on these subjects SMres, as we are faced with this poor analysis everyday when we turn on the TV or open the SF Chron. Indymedia, contrary to your efforts, is a place for critical thinkers to post comments, in order for people to further the struggle for the common good, maybe you should try thinking a little more about what you write and why you write it here. Feel free to discuss this openly on this post thread....
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
