The Democratic National Convention is more than just the Olympics for the media, it is a place where some go to have their views heard by people with political or star power. I don't necessarily agree with all the messages of the groups that are lining up protesting outside of the Fleet Center here in Boston, but some are interesting. One group marched wearing giant flip-flops, claiming, “John Kerry flip-flops on the issues”, while a creative designer made t-shirts with pictures of George Washington and George W. Bush that read “couldn't tell a lie” and “could.”

Some groups with graphic anti-abortion signs were attacked by other protesters because of their crude display. The most original group of protesters, call themselves “Billionaires for Bush”, a media and street theater campaign that wants anything less than another 4-years of George W. As for the most disturbing group, that would have to be the anti-gay group with whom I crossed paths. This group re-wrote songs such as the Woody Guthrie classic, “This Land is Your Land”, and filled them with anti-gay rhetoric, while holding signs that said “God Hates Fags.”

I am sure these groups are not the worst we will see during this election cycle. With zero arrests in Boston, my guess is that most of the controversy will be reserved for the RNC, held at the end of August in New York City.
