7-16-04 (New York) Martha Stewart was sentenced today to five months in prison and five months' home confinement following her conviction on charges stemming from a questionable stock deal.

Stewart, 62, and her former broker, Peter Bacanovic, were convicted in March of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements over Stewart's sale of nearly 4000 shares in the biotechnology company ImClone Systems.

- PRISON: Five months. Judge Cedarbaum accepted a defense request that the Bureau of Prisons assign Stewart to a low-security federal prison in Danbury, Conn., close to her home in Westport, Conn.. Stewart will be allowed to stay out of prison while she appeals her conviction.

- HOME DETENTION: Five months, following the prison term. Stewart chose her home in Bedford, N.Y. She must remain in her home except for employment activities, medical appointments, religious observances - but those exceptions must total no more than 48 hours a week. - SUPERVISED RELEASE: Two years, in which Stewart must report to a probation officer.

- FINE: $30,000 which she must pay immediately.

-COURT FEE: $400 which she must pay immediately.
