Sex Workers Organized for Labor, Human, and Civil Rights July 25 (Sunday) 12:00 noon (until 7:00 p.m.) Donation requested New College of California 777 Valencia St. (near 19th St.), San Francisco All workers need unions and rights on the job. The victory of the Lusty Ladies Club and their first contract with SEIU 790 is an important milestone in the effort to organize the thousands of sex workers in San Francisco. Sex workers are also organizing around the world from Italy to India, and this event will screen films, host discussion panels, and speak truth to power in the struggle for human rights on the job. =========================================== "Straight for the Money" (12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.) A film by Hima B., 1994 (58 minutes) This documentary profiles eight lesbian and bisexual women who work as prostitutes, strippers, porn stars, and phone sex workers as they discuss how they negotiate their jobs, intimacy with lovers, and values. "Sexperts" Carol Queen, Annie Sprinkle, Scarlot Harlot, and Joan Nestle provide insight into the historical presence of queer sex workers. =========================================== "Tales of the Night Fairies" (1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) A film by Shohini Ghosh, 2002 (74 minutes) A film about how Indian sex workers have organized for their labor, human, and civil rights. (Bengali with English subtitles.) =========================================== "Legalization Sucks: The Nevada Brothels" (2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.) Nevada's legal brothel sex industry workers share their view of their working conditions, the owners' priorities, the drug and alcohol trade, regulation by the police, social stigmatization, the effects of working on family life, and other topics. =========================================== "Victoria Principal's Sex Education for Sex Workers by Sex Workers" (4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) A film by the Sex Workers Outreach Project of Australia And there will be a test afterwards and discussion to follow. =========================================== Sexual Assaults on the Job (5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.) San Francisco Adult Sexual Assault Task Force members will provide information on how to report a sexual assault and will also take questions. =========================================== Award Ceremony for Bobby S. (6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) Sex Workers Organized for Labor, Human, and Civil Rights will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Bobby S. for decades of service in providing organizational support to sex workers and their different organizations.
