CLAREMONT Professor says police framed her
CLAREMONT, Calif. - A former Claremont McKenna College psychology professor accused of vandalizing her own car and falsely reporting it as a hate crime said police officers falsified their reports to help prosecutors win a conviction against her.
"Ms. Dunn unequivocally denies that she vandalized her own car or that she intentionally made any false statements to authorities," her lawyers wrote in recently filed court documents. "She intends to argue at trial that her interviews with the above named officers and agents are being inaccurately portrayed and were inaccurately recorded in police reports in order to make it more likely that she would be successfully prosecuted for this offense."
Claremont police Lt. Stan Van Horne said the officers' reports are true and accurate, and said Dunn's allegations against the department were baseless.
Prosecutors allege Dunn falsely reported that someone spray painted racist and anti-Semitic slurs on her car, slashed her tires and broke her windows March 9 while she was on the college's campus to give a lecture on racism. In response, the colleges canceled classes for a day of anti-hate rallies.
