THE SHOUT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD
One No and a Million Yeses

A Day of Nonviolent Civil Disobedience and Direct Action
During the Republican National Convention

The Republicans are coming. In a shameless effort to exploit the
tragedy of 9-11, they will use New York City to re-nominate a
president whose agenda tramples on the very freedoms they claim to
fight for. A radical affront to democracy calls for a radical
response. On Tuesday, August 31st, a day of non-violent civil
disobedience and direct action will begin, commencing with a
synchronized Shout Heard Round the World.

As clocks strike 12pm, 2 days before the re-nomination of George W.
Bush, the people of the world will shout NO with one voice. From
Brooklyn to Baghdad, London to Lisbon, Seoul to Sao Paulo, we'll
honk car horns, blow trumpets, bang drums, pots and pans and shout
NO at the top of our lungs.

Here in New York, we will converge on Madison Square Garden, the
site of the Republican National Convention, and at other locations
around the city where the ill-gotten gains of Republicans will be
celebrated. We will sit down in the streets and refuse to move.
And from our clear NO will emerge a constellation of YESES: YES to
democracy, YES to justice, freedom, and peace. We'll take over the
streets--transforming them into stages of resistance and forums for
debate. We'll draw our examples and inspiration from the brave
shapers of history who came before us, those who put their bodies on
the line to gain the vote, win independence, end apartheid. We
will harness the spirit that puts our city at the center of the
world: creativity, ingenuity, social conscience, grit. We will
show the world what real democracy looks like.

We're ready to say "Enough!" We want more than speeches and
protest pens. We want change. We want to take democracy from the
Halliburtons and Enrons and bring it back to town halls, schools,
and neighborhoods. A true democracy thrives on diversity: and,
while we celebrate our differences, we stand united in our
opposition to the dismantling of our dreams, united in our
opposition to the dangerous direction of things. In this we make
common cause with the people of the world.

It's time to plot a new course, to wrench out a new kind of
history--one of solidarity and participation, of compassion and
wisdom. On August 31, 2004, we will begin to forge a new kind of
story. Anything is possible. We will shape history. The only
limit is the boundary of our collective imagination.

See you in the streets.

this actually seems like a great idea. Maybe the key word is seems, this is what the brightest minds of resistance have come up with. I like noiz so this appeals to me, but using the words direct action in association with this is so weak. Then to slap on a pointless Civil (dis) obience call on to what was an interesting idea really makes it seem like the well of creativity is a little shallow.
I have been trying to figure out whether going to the RNC really is important and if there will be anything going on there that will be worth getting arrested for. The jurry is out so far. If capitalism is the problem, maybe the important work that needs to be done, needs to be done at home.

I think there needs to be some bridge working with the NYC folks:

The Tuesday call for “Million Yeses One No” is not being taken seriously by most local anarchists. For one thing, yelling doesn’t count as direct action. Realistically, most people will come to the weekend actions, and the numbers will drop for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Our experience with the arrest-o-ramas in simularly timed days in Philly and the WEF make this call unappealing and fraught with the threat of heavy police repression. The possible arrests of the previous days will no doubt sap our energy and resources, making the Tuesday actions seem to be at this point isolated and just plain stupid. Buyer beware.

That guy is awful. I have him in my screen saver. His pores are very big. It took Camilo Viveiros until 2004 to finally get those illegitimate charges dropped for when Timoney threw a bicycle at him in Philadelphia. Viveiros is almost a pacifist. In Miami, Timoney was really pushing it and had officers ordering the neighborhood people to attack protesters, although that misfired and they helped shelter the protesters as police swept the streets and beat and arrested even old people who didn't know there was a conference going on downtown.

Millions of us can not vote or attend our governments meetings in the USA, particularly bad is the South East USA. Words and protests mean nothing to those in Democrat/Republican regime. You are not even heard or seen in distant locales due to media censorship by the US government.

Because I can not vote or attend my native city's government meetings, and the government obeys no laws to protect us the poor and common.

Suicide bombers and kidnappers are viewed as martyrs if they limit their activities to guilty and corrupt politicians and high ranking bureaucrats and mafia alliances.

Bon Voyage
