Stop Prison Torture: Amerikkkan Prisons in Iraq and California

7pm Womens Building, 3543 18th Street in San Francisco

The torture of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib is no surprise, those same conditions are seen in prisons across Amerika, the country with the highest imprisonment rate in the world. Two of the first seven soldiers caught torturing Iraqis in Abu Ghraib prison worked as U.$. prison guards before going to Iraq. In California prisons, there are specially designated areas called Security Housing Units (SHU) where prisoners are held in long term solitary confinement in conditions that cause severe physical and mental health problems. These units were condemned by the United Nations as torture. The California Department of Corrections locks up thousands of prisoners, predominantly targeting Mexicans, in these torture cells. Come learn about the Amerikan prison system and how we can fight it.

Sponsored by the United Front to Abolish Security Housing Units and the Maoist Internationalist Movement
