District 9 race: Ammiano kicks himself in the teeth at kick-off campaign rally

Steve Zeltzer is a long time labor/community activist and leader in the fight for justice. From fighting racism on the job to fighting against the media monopoly robber baron's like Comcast who control the San Francisco's cable system, Zeltzer has stood up for the residents of District 9 and the people of this country. He is a native of San Francisco who grew up partly in Holly Park. He graduated from San Francisco State and supported the SF State strike of 1968. He is a member of IUOE Stationary Engineers Local 39 and works for the City of San Francisco as a stationary engineer.

He has produced labor TV shows and labor documentaries since 1983, and also helped found LaborFest to celebrate the culture and art of working people. He has worked to support independent working class politics. His record of fighting for working people is long. He is registered in the Peace and Freedom Party and has been active within the labor movement in opposition to the war in Iraq and US intervention in the Middle East including Israel.

Presently, he is helping to build the ILWU initiated Million Worker March in Washington to defend all working people from privatization, contracting out and militarization. Steve also supports the formation of an independent national democratic labor party that will be based on working people and the communities throughout the country.

Tom Ammiano must be told at all forums that he cannot claim to be for tenants and support the Zionist government of Israel. He returned from a trip to Israel and proudly proclaimed to "feel Israel's pain," whatever that is. Clearly, he supports Israel's 56 year illegal occupation, courtesy us taxpayers.

The theme that all voters in District 9 must hear is that a vote for any Democrat is a vote for the murder and torture of the Palestinians and theft of Palestinian land, paid for with $4 billion from us taxpayers, stolen from our city budgets, which are heavily subsidized by federal funding. Just as the resolution on this November's ballot says we cannot have guns and butter in regard to Iraq, we also cannot have guns and butter in relation to Israel, better known as a US military base that exists to protect US oil profits in the Middle East.

Those who endorse Democrats are equally guilty of supporting Israel's current fascist, racist, theocratic US puppet government.

There is no way Tom Ammiano can comprise on the Israel garbage. Both the Democratic and Republican Parties are 100% committed to their favorite US military base in the Middle East, Israel.

It is the socialist parties, such as Peace & Freedom Party, that have been the most consistent in their support of the Palestinian liberation struggle and exposing the fascist nature of the 56-year occupation of Palestine by the "cat's paw of US imperialism" founded by Nazi collaborators, Israel.

Tom Ammiano always supports the entire Democratic Party ticket, including our death penalty duo, Senators Feinstein and Boxer, death penalty Attorney General Lockyer, the prison-promoting recalled Gov. Gray Davis, war criminal former Pres Bill Clinton, and all the other utterly despicable Democrats.

To top it off, Ammiano proudly supported both the football and baseball stadium swindles (he is currently for the $100 million bond for the football stadium) and illegally privatizing public land to circumvent a good church/state separation ruling so that an illegal cross can stand on Mt. Davidson. Even the liberal Bay Guardian had the good sense to oppose both stadium swindles and the cross on Mt. Davidson.

This insulting, illegal run for a 3rd four-year term on the part of Democrat Ammiano must be defeated. Ammiano is carrying out the traditional role of the Democratic Party to keep the Reds out of office so the twins of capitalism, the Democrat-Republicans, can carry out the same warmongering, death penalty, anti-labor agenda.

* the "taxpayer" gambit. fundies say the same thing about abortion, sex education and disease prevention.

* the "genocide" thing: almost no american has the right to talk this way when the indian "reservation" system is still in existence.

* the "apartheid" thing: again, few americans have the right to talk this way, specifically if they arent of african descent.

* as if an s.f. supervisor is in any position to contribute much to u.s. policy vis a vis the palestine-israel conflict. it's just going to add to the ideological polarization around the issue, and continued low intensity warfare. oh, we don't have enough of that....

* and of course, the obligatory jew-hating thing. whatever israel's pain is? head out of ass time.

it goes on and on and on. it sounds exactly like the thinking of a machine to me. it is intolerant and therefore discrediting to all it touches. and the palestinians need more friends like this like they need more road maps, israeli democracy, or (for that matter) incompetent, arrogant american "leftists" "defending" their interests.hack hack hack.
