California DAs accept payoffs from music industry for "Napster" style prosecutions
Very short news item, shows the the California District Attorney Association is taking money from the recording industry. Questions propriety of this after the aggressive file sharing Napster prosecutions
The Annual Conference of the California District Attornies Association is being held this week, from June 28 to July 2, 2004 at the Silverado Resort in Napa California.
The conference is capped off by the Annual Awards/Insertion Banquet. According to the CDAA web page, this is being paid for by the Recording Industry Association of America.

There is a serious conflict of interest inherent in the acceptance of a gift, by a prosecutor, from a private entity which has a vested interest in seeing a prosecution, or in this case an entire class of prosecutions, for file sharing, going forward.
More to follow on how much money has been given to the DAs, individually and collectively.
