Your Community & Labor Report – National Edition
Produced & Hosted by Mimi Rosenberg & Ken Nash
Presents

When Reagan was a Liberal

In 1948 Ronald Reagan, then the President of the Screen Actors Guild, starred in a Radio program sponsored by the International Ladies Garment Workers Union promoting the candidacy of Harry Truman in the Presidential elections of that year. You will hear Ronald Reagan the then unabashed liberal blasting the Republican Congress for its anti-
worker policies including the Taft-Hartley Act and for promoting policies which decrease the real income of workers while promoting huge profits by the greedy corporations.

Remembering Reagan – A View from the Left
With
Henry Foner – Past President , Fur and Leather Workers Union 1961-1988,
currently Co-Historian of the Labor Arts website

Henry Foner, one of the great progressive trade unionists, talks about the 1948 elections, and reflects on Ronald Reagan’s role as a liberal in the Post W.W.II period, the McCarthy period and Reagan’s ultimate emergence as the spearhead of anti worker,
anti-civil rights and imperial America as President of the United States.

Industrial Workers of the World vs Starbucks
Starbucks Workers Form Union
With
Daniel Gross, Starbucks Worker, IWW IU/660 Retail Workers' Union

Starbucks, the symbol of corporate capitalism, is fighting a blast from labor’s militant past and it seems present. Starbucks workers here have organized a union with the Industrial Workers of the World and have submitted union cards recently to the NLRB
for a certification election. The workers are poised to become the first Starbucks Baristas union certified in the country. Starbucks workers at the 36th and Madison location in Midtown Manhattan have come together in an effort to raise themselves out of poverty as well as to achieve respect and dignity on the job. While the workers are calling on Starbucks to obey the law as the election approaches, Starbucks is challenging the workers right to form a union .
