Alright, people, we know this is some last-minute shit, but we need your
support!
This Saturday, the 12th, we're throwing a benefit for the Mexican
prisoners still being held in Guadalajara at fucking outrageous ransoms of
$6,000-$25,000, all for protesting against the trade discussions they were
banned from participating in at the EU-Latin American Summit. There's
been reports in the mainstream media of severe military police repression,
and reports from the jails of even worse physical and sexual torture. As
many of you know, the situation in Mexico for student and labor organizers
is very grave right now, with several brutal deaths in the past few months
of people as young as 17. Currently, there are 25 people still in prison,
all but one of whom have been forced to sign false confessions admitting
to everything from property distruction to assaulting officers. The
police are refusing to release their names, but are instead using tactics
such as threat of rape, forcing men and women prisoners to stand and
exercise naked in front of guards, and continual beating to force
prisoners to divulge the identities of local activists and details about
their organizing. One of the women is handcuffed to her bed in the
hospital, with severe brain swelling. All the internationals have been
deported, and the families of the 25 have asked for help in freeing their
loved ones.
