Reagun Remembered
Listen now:
Reagun Rap re-issued by Dialeclectics
To commemorate the deaths of thousands of victims of Ronald Reagun’s policies, and counterbalance the media’s pro-Reagan bias, Dial•ec•lec•tics has reissued their song, Right Trap Rap.
Penned by songwriter Lary Moore in 1984, the lyrics offer an intelligent and still timely critique of the right wing and their front man, Reagun.
The song was recorded in Hollywood in 1986 by Michael Monagan and Lary Moore, and is still one of the best political raps ever set to music. It received some airplay in L.A. on KCRW and KPFK when released as a cassette on “Songs for Peace and Freedom” by Dialeclectics.
Right Trap Rap includes excerpts from Reagun’s ‘Rendevous with Destiny’ speech, as well as insane blathering from Jerry Fowlwell and Reagun’s famous “We begin bombing in five minutes” idiotic comment. The song received scant airplay due to it’s hard hitting lyrics and mild profanity (“kick the ass of the working class”) that seems tame today, yet still makes most mainstream rap seem like a tool of the system.
"Break the bank, prepare for war
More for the pentagon, less for the poor..."
