Hey, I love your photos - thanks.

I'm someone who was "introduced to politics" through the ISO, and I found "cheap stabs" at the ISO to be a way at isolating me even further from the activist community at large. In fact, I found it really hard to find any critical analysis of groups of people, or strategies for organizing. The ISO folks did help me develop some ability to critique the political landscape, but mostly within a historical context.

There are many ways to achieve our goals. I think the ISO and some groups like them are generally separatist and mostly "cancel out" right-wing separatist groups. Maybe I'm feeding off of Paulo Friere with this, but I think the group errors in negating the future and won't achieve long-term goals.

However, the ISO and groups like them, work for some people. They do a great deal of outreach, connecting to those of us that have lived in isolated areas where the landscape isn't so political. They serve for education, they plug some youth into the movement. I've seen the ISO and other separatist groups do excellent work as allies, with the genuine interest of the goals at hand. The ISO is dedicated to its goals, and focuses on strategies. Something most of us can learn by. They talk to one another and to strangers about the issues they feel passionately about - how many of us take that risk? They make connections between issues happening in the world, and between political possibilities.

There are some "good" & "bad" things coming out of the ISO. If you think the ISO members are misguided, you can offer a critical analysis or another possibility. And if you want to make a difference, you might pick up a few good hints from the ISO. I don't remember the last time a person turned to me on the bus and asked me what I thought about the state of affairs.
