Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and the Manchurian Candidate
http://www.buzzflash.com/farrell/04/05/far04017.html

'As I've written elsewhere: If I were president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. I would first apologize--very publicly and sincerely-- to all the widows and orphans, the impoverished and tortured, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism. Then I would announce that America's global military interventions have come to an end. I would then inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the union but--oddly enough-- a foreign country. Then I would reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims and repair the damage from the many American bombings, invasions and sanctions. There would be enough money. One year of our military buget is equal to more than $20,000 per hour for evey hour since Jesus Christ was born. That's one year.
That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated.' --William Blum

# Deadtime for Bonzo Fri June 11 4-11pm FREE
This friday is a solemn and momentous occasion,
where we at Annie's Cocktail Lounge wish to pay
respect to the memory of former President Ronald
Reagan in a manner, we feel, befits his legacy.
So, we're having a 'Deadtime for Bonzo' Happy
Hour!!! Tess promises a number of special drinks
including the John Hinckley popper (which he
promises 'will go down as easy as a crippled
old man'), the 'Just Say No' and the 'Trickle
Down' served via a 'special' drink dispenser.
Jelly Bellies, Bananas and 'I Don't Recall' bar snacks
will be available; special free commemorative vegetable
packets will be handed out to mark the occasion. Video
entertainment to include 'Bedtime for Bonzo' and random
Jodie Foster films. Be sure to join our pool to guess
the release date of Elton John's next rework of
'Candle in the Wind'.
If you feel appropriately motivated, please dress in
your best formal Wake attire, your favorite Iran-Contra
personality or as Ted Nugent.
This is a happy hour party, so come early and drink
often. We'll be here as long as there's booze left.
Come down and shoot one for the gipper!

# 6/12 In Rachel Corrie's Footsteps--Craig and Cindy Corrie speak out
Sun June 13 @ 7:30 pm First United Meth Church, 9 Ross Valley Drive
(off 4th St.), San Rafael Slide show and discussion free.
Rachel Corrie was only 23 when she was crushed to death by an Israeli
bulldozer while trying to prevent a Palestinian doctor's home from
being demolished. Her parents say that, before their daughter immersed
herself in the politics of the Middle East, they viewed the conflict as
white noise; but since Rachel's death in March 2003, the Corries have
travelled in her footsteps and are outspoken about the reality they
have witnessed. The Corries will show slides and speak about their
search to understand the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.
Craig Corrie was a reluctant Vietnam War hero whose soldiers used
military bulldozers similar to the U.S.-made Caterpillar involved in
Rachel's death. http://www.craigslist.org/eve/32227741.html

# Thu June 24 7 pm Film: The End of Suburbia, Oil Depletion and
the Collapse of the American Dream
Since World War II North Americans have invested
much of their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of
space, affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the
population of suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so
too the suburban way of life has become embedded in the American
consciousness. Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American
Dream. But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are
beginning to emerge about the sustainability of this way of life.
With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia
explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet
approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins
to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of
fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue
in this documentary. The consequences of inaction in the face of this
global crisis are enormous. What does Oil Peak mean for North
America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the
populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are
today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what
can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of
Suburbia ? Directed by Gregory Greene. Produced by Barry Silverthorn.
Hosted by Barrie Zwicker. Featuring James Howard Kunstler, Peter
Calthorpe, Michael Klare, Richard Heinberg, Matthew Simmons, Mike
Ruppert, Julian Darley, Colin Campbell, Kenneth Deffeyes, Ali Samsam
Bakhtiari and Steve Andrews. $5 - $15 sliding scale, notaflof
